We are Selina and Mae, auburn and ice, Sel and Mea, and we are soul-mates. We both were born in Ottawa, educated in Halifax, and are living in Tiohtià:ke/Montreal, Canada. In the fall of 2017 we did a residency in Iceland, where we did much of this work. In Iceland and elsewhere, we go on walks, rearrange things, eat from tiny dishes, make lists, and talk about landscape, movement, distance and memory.
Our collaboration begins with play. It begins in moments of intuitive and liberated gesture, in small phrases and creative instincts. Our play is informed by our impulses for colour and shape, a curiosity for all things routine, a compulsion towards beauty, nature, thoughtfulness, aspirations for connection, meaningfulness, youthfulness and tactility.
We are grateful for the mud, the fabric, the friends, the land, good lighting, blooms, kin, linen, conversation and all things yet to inspire. Thank you for the support.
